MSC Partners with Airbnb on Outdoor Safety
Media Release
NZ Mountain Safety Council (MSC) has joined forces with Airbnb on a new initiative to promote outdoor safety.
The partnership establishes a valuable new communication channel for MSC to connect with Airbnb hosts and their local and international guests.
Through our collaboration with Airbnb, we can reach walkers and hikers staying in Airbnb accommodation with essential safety information before they head outdoors,– says MSC Chief Executive Mike Daisley.
“Whether it’s for a short walk or more challenging hike, proper preparation and safety knowledge are essential. Our partnership with Airbnb helps extend our reach in delivering these critical messages.”
Airbnb has expanded its Tiaki Promise webpage to cover information on outdoor safety as well as water safety, with sections for both hosts and guests. This includes links to MSC’s Plan My Walk trip planning tool and hiking and tramping safety video series, along with other vital resources.
“Hosts play a key role in sharing information with their guests, which helps to reinforce important outdoor safety messages and contributes to a strong community that looks out for each other,” says Daisley. “At the end of the day, we want everyone exploring New Zealand’s great outdoors to return home safely."
MSC will present vital outdoor safety messages at Airbnb’s online workshop for hosts planned for March.
Airbnb Country Manager Susan Wheeldon says the workshop will raise awareness of Airbnb’s Tiaki Promise.
“We are expanding our efforts to help more people stay safe and make a positive contribution to communities throughout Aotearoa as part of our Tiaki Promise," says Susan.
